MULTI-FACTOR MARCH

If you've been following our recent blog posts, you know our team here at Bacheler Technologies has cyber security at the front of our minds. With the increasing frequency of cyber-attacks and data breaches, it's crucial to take measures to protect your online accounts and personal information. One effective way to do so is through Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-Factor Authentication is a security measure that requires users to provide two or more types of identification to access their accounts. This additional layer of security helps to prevent unauthorized access even if someone has stolen or guessed your password.

MFA typically involves three factors:

  1. Something you know - such as a password, PIN, or answer to a security question.

  2. Something you have - such as a smartphone, a physical security token, or a smart card.

  3. Something you are - such as a fingerprint, facial recognition, or retina scan.

By requiring two or more of these factors, MFA makes it far more difficult for threat actors to gain access to your accounts, even if they have your password.

Why is Multi-Factor Authentication Important?

Passwords alone are no longer enough to secure your accounts. Hackers can use a variety of methods to steal or guess your password, including phishing, social engineering, and brute-force attacks. MFA adds an extra layer of security to your accounts and helps to prevent unauthorized access.

MFA can also help to protect your accounts from cyber-attacks such as credential stuffing, where hackers use a list of stolen usernames and passwords to try and gain access to other accounts. With MFA, even if a hacker has your password, they won't be able to access your account without the additional authentication factor.

How to Implement Multi-Factor Authentication

Bacheler Technologies offers MFA solutions as a key piece of our BT Guardian security package.

Once enabled, users will be prompted to set up the additional authentication factor. This may involve downloading an authentication app such as Google Authenticator, Duo, or Passly - or receiving a text message or phone call with a verification code. Users will need to provide this code and their password to access their accounts.

Multi-Factor Authentication is a powerful tool that can help to protect your online accounts and personal information. By requiring two or more types of identification to access your accounts, MFA makes it much more difficult for hackers to gain unauthorized access. If you haven't already, it's a good idea to enable MFA on all your online accounts to keep them secure.
